The Holiday You May Not Know About…

Of course, everyone’s familiar with Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday but did you know that today is a holiday too? Well it may not be an official holiday just yet, but if the people over at 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation have their way it will be soon. Giving Tuesday, as it’s been named, founded on December 2, 2012 as a way for charities, families, and businesses to come together to¬†encourage generosity and celebrate the giving spirit. Giving Tuesday provides a socially responsible alternative to the highly materialistic Black Friday and Cyber Monday holidays. Since 2012, the Giving Tuesday movement has grown to include more than 10,000 organizations globally. Pretty impressive huh?

In addition to uplifting social media and email campaigns, they also assist in organizing neighborhood events all across the country where the community is provided with opportunities to make monetary donations or volunteer their time to their favorite non-profit organizations.
