With the cold weather of winter comes the inevitable…dry skin. I don’t know about you, but it’s not always in the budget to get expensive and time-consuming spa treatments. However you can create the same results at home with a few items that you most likely have sitting in your kitchen. In honor of National Beauty Month, I have listed my 5 favorite homemade body scrub recipes. Try them today and let me know what you think!
1) Honey Citrus Sugar Scrub
Why I Love It: Honey ramps up the moisture to your skin and I love the energizing effects of citrus.
1 cup granulated or raw sugar
1 tsp pure honey
1/4 cup olive oil
2 tsp fresh citrus zest (orange, lemon, grapefruit, etc)
Mix together the honey and olive oil, stir mixture into 1 cup of sugar, and add the citrus zest. You may add a little more olive oil to reach your desired texture. Store in an air-tight container.
2) Mint Chocolate Sugar Scrub
Why I Love It: Umm hello?!! It’s chocolate! 😉 No seriously! Chocolate has long been known for being high in antioxidants not to mention that caffeine is widely used to combat signs of aging. Plus this one smells amazing!
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup white sugar
⅓ cup almond oil
2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
10 drops peppermint pure essential oil
In a large bowl, add the brown sugar, white sugar, and cocoa powder. Mix them together.
Add the almond oil, and peppermint essential oil, and mix until well combined.
Transfer the mixture to a container with a secure lid.
3) Coconut Oatmeal Scrub
Why I Love It: Oatmeal is soothing very soothing for irritated or sensitive skin and the coconut oil and honey add moisture and produce an intoxicating smell.
1 1/2 cup oatmeal
1/2 cup coconut oil
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp honey
1 tsp brown sugar
Ground oatmeal in a food processor and place finely ground oatmeal in a bowl. Add brown sugar to oatmeal and mix. Pour honey, vanilla, and coconut oil to the oatmeal and mix until well combined. Store in an airtight container.
4) Pumpkin Spice Sugar Scrub
Why I Love It: With only three ingredients this one is super easy to make and it doesn’t hurt that it smells like pumpkin pie.
1 cup coconut oil
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
Place coconut oil into a blender and blend until smooth. Add the brown sugar and pumpkin pie spice and blend together. If you want the scrub a bit more coarse, add more brown sugar until you get the consistency that you would like.
5) Lavender Vanilla Sugar Scrub
Why I Love It: Lavender is one of my most favorite scents. It is known to promote feelings of calm and well-being which is why it is used in a lot of (bed time) relaxation products for both adults and children.
